Password management for applications

Hi,

If I were to host application directly on a Windows Server, environment variables for host account would be available for me to configure passwords. Environment variables are not available here, but what is everybody using to store/retrieve secrets? Some sort of vault + client cert in ./private?

on our hosting you can also use environment variables to store passwords and sensitive data. You can manage environment variables in Control Panel:
Website -> Scripting -> Environment variables
